"The pelicans are an example of a sudden flash of inspiration. I saw a trio in just the same pose and was struck by the composition. The three heads like towers were a striking image. The waves and the water were the final solution to tie them together and create the base for the bowl. Birds have always been a bit of a daunting subject to portray well in ceramic and the pelicans make a fine resolution."
